Was Argylle Written by Taylor Swift? The Wildest Movie Theory Confuses Fans
Elly Conway, the author of the Argylle book, is not at all the person we think she is, the fans say.
Summary:
- Argylle, Matthew Vaughn's highly anticipated movie, is supposedly based on Elly Conway's book, but fans doubt this is true. Viewers believe that the author is actually Taylor Swift and Elly Conway is her pseudonym.
- According to many fans, a previously unknown author could not get a movie adaptation of her book with such a big budget and big Hollywood stars like Henry Cavill.
- In addition, fans say that actress Bryce Dallas Howard was chosen to play Elly Conway because of her resemblance to Taylor Swift.
- Matthew Vaughn further confused fans when he claimed that the movie was based on a book coming out in January, and then said that Argylle was based on the fourth book, when it was the first book that came out in January.
Argylle, the spy movie everyone is anticipating because of Henry Cavill's weird haircut, cute cat, and Dua Lipa's film debut (this time in a main role), has become the center of fan discussion, and for good reason.
Argylle Is Based On the Book by Elly Conway
Argylle is supposedly based on a book by Elly Conway, but many viewers doubt that the writer even exists. Fans of conspiracy theories, get ready, because this one is worthy of your attention.
Elly Conway is a writer no one had heard of before the news about Argylle – she has an Instagram account, but has not posted a single photo of her face. An unknown writer and no one knows what she looks like – looks suspicious, right?
Elly Conway Is Actually Taylor Swift, Theory Claims
Viewers assumed that Elly Conway (while in some sources she is called Ellie) is the pseudonym of Taylor Swift, who actually wrote the book.
According to fans, this is indicated by the fact that the no-name author could not get a movie adaptation with such a big budget and such big stars as Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Speaking of Bryce Dallas Howard. Fans believe that this particular actress was cast in the role of Elly Conway because she looks like Taylor Swift, especially since Swift appeared in one of her short films, All Too Well, as an author with red hair.
Another part of the fans believe that it was J. K. Rowling who actually wrote the book. Why? Well, just because she is one of the most influential modern authors, and she has already worked under a pseudonym.
Argylle’s Director Confuses the Fans Even More
As you can already see, the story behind Argylle is extremely complicated, and the comments made by the film's director, Matthew Vaughn, only add to the confusion.
On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Vaughn first stated that Argylle is based on a book that would be released in January (the first book in the Argylle series actually came out on January 9th, 2024), but then said that the movie was based on the fourth book in the series:
“It's based on a book... It's coming out in January. […] I love the idea of what would happen if J. K. Rowling met a wizard and was real. And book 4, which is what the movie's based around, was the one that would work for it. So book 1 is being published.”
We can only make guesses and theories about what is really going on, but given all the facts, it can be assumed that the story with the book and Elly Conway is part of meta-marketing aimed at popularizing the upcoming movie among viewers.
Argylle hits theaters on February 2, and let's hope that brings some clarity.
