Warner Bros. Wants to Shoot a New Dark Knight Trilogy with Nolan, Reports Suggest
According to insiders, Warner Bros. is trying to mend its relationship with the director and have him back for something big — potentially, a second Dark Knight trilogy.
For almost the entirety of his career, director Christopher Nolan has been the most loyal man on the planet, shooting all his movies exclusively with IMAX equipment and working exclusively with Warner Bros.
While the former still holds true, the latter recently changed, and for a rather ugly reason.
The release of Nolan's previous movie, Tenet, became the reason for the director's dissatisfaction with the company.
Warner Bros. decided to release the movie on HBO Max ( now named just MAX) simultaneously with its release in cinemas which seriously undermined Tenet's revenue.
The movie barely broke even — and worst of all, the company did that without informing Nolan.
Obviously, the director was incredibly frustrated and soon, he left Warner Bros. Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan's upcoming movie, will become his first project not associated with WB; instead, Nolan made Oppenheimer under Universal Studios.
Initially, Warner Bros. executives were furious and decided to strike back: the company's Barbie releasing the same day as Oppenheimer is WB's middle finger to the director and the method of undermining yet another project of his.
But admittedly, now Warner Bros. are double-backing on their declaration of war — at least, that's what insiders claim.
According to reports, WB wants Christopher Nolan to work with them again. The company recently sent the director a hefty seven-figure paycheck presumably associated with Tenet, and this is seen as a peace offering of sorts.
Michael De Luca, one of Warner Bros. executives, openly stated that WB wanted Nolan back.
The seven-figure attempt of mending fences may or may not succeed, but we're not sure that it will do the trick after the company has intentionally undermined two latest movies of the director.
Still, some of the insiders also believe that Warner Bros. executives are trying to convince Christopher Nolan with an offering of shooting a new Dark Knight trilogy and bringing Christian Bale back, too.
These are likely mere speculations, but quite exciting ones... And who knows, perhaps, such an offer could do wonders for the director's relationship with the company in case the recent paycheck fails.
