Warner Bros. Seemingly Confirms What Fantastic Beasts Fans Dreaded The Most
Could Fantastic Beasts be canceled after all?
Though CEO of Warner Bros. David Zaslav clearly expressed interest in creating a new Harry Potter movie, another Wizarding World franchise, Fantastic Beasts, seems to have reached its premature end. Variety reported that according to their source at the studio, there are no Wizarding World projects currently in development at Warner Bros which means the planned fourth and fifth installments of the Fantastic Beasts franchise may never see the light.
Earlier, Fantastic Beasts' rumored cancellation was partially confirmed by Eddie Redmayne playing Newt Scamander who said in an interview with IndieWire that he hadn't yet heard anything from the studio about Fantastic Beasts 4.
With Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore becoming a box-office disaster and all the behind-the-scenes drama surrounding the franchise, viewers think it is only natural that the franchise is being shut down.
The majority actually thinks that the third movie in the franchise was clearly written to be an ending. Though fans feel disappointed that they may never see the famous battle between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, others note that it is not so necessary. We already know from Harry Potter how the fight goes and ends, so no surprises there.
Though there was no official statement concerning the fate of Fantastic Beasts yet, David Zaslav made clear that profits drive Warner Bros. decisions going forward so with each Fantastic Beasts movie making less money, it is understandable that the franchise is not a priority for the studio at the moment. Nevertheless, some Fantastic Beasts fans refuse to believe any rumors about the franchise cancellation until they are officially confirmed.
"I'm a never say never type of person so who knows, until/if they explicitly say the FB series is canceled then I won't say it's dead," a fan commented.
Another hot topic for discussion is Zaslav's words about producing "something with J.K. Rowling on Harry Potter." Though Variety's source said there were no active discussions with Rowling about another Harry Potter movie, Wizarding World fans believe that a Harry Potter spinoff is only a question of time.
"I honestly believe it's a "when", not an "if", we get a Force Awakens-style Harry Potter movie with the original cast returning. Whether it'll be Cursed Child, or a new story that the fans might actually accept, is the real question," a fan wrote, and with Zaslav's statement this reasoning looks extremely plausible.
