Virgin River Showrunner Wants to Enjoy Mel and Jack's Engagement, But Viewers Find It Hard
Maybe we just have different thoughts on what’s enjoyable.
Summary:
- Virgin River is a Netflix TV series based on the novels of the same name by Robyn Carr.
- The main couple, Mel and Jack, got engaged in season 4, and now that the show is heading into its 6th season, fans are waiting for the wedding.
- However, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith says they won't rush into anything yet.
If you are a fan of more relaxing TV shows, you have probably already watched Virgin River on Netflix and fallen in love with Mel and Jack as much as we have. The show has everything you'd want in your favorite drama, from a strong romantic storyline to an element of mystery. Some call it soapy, while others just sit back and enjoy everything Virgin River has to offer.
As addictive as the show has proven to be for many viewers, it's hard to continue to turn a blind eye to some things that annoy the fanbase to the core. Starting with a weird timeline that makes some events, like Charmaine's pregnancy, take way too long and others happen way too soon. And ending with all the twists in Mel and Jack's love story.
You can take it as proof of the audience's dedication to the story, but pretty much every twist and turn that the couple faces together immediately attracts the arguments of the fanbase. Some think the events happen too soon, others wish they didn't happen at all, and some even argue that the breakups and make-ups should have lasted longer than they did.
As you can imagine, the engagement was no different. If anything, such a major milestone in the characters' lives was met with an even bigger wave of discussion all over the web. And just like in real life, as soon as the proposal happened at the end of season 4, the wedding talk started.
Will Jack and Mel Get Married In Virgin River Season 6?
It is quite obvious that the fans are divided into two camps right now, with some clearly in favor of the wedding and others believing that the couple will have to wait a little longer.
Virgin River's showrunner, Patrick Sean Smith, is clearly on the side of the latter, enjoying not only the engagement stage for the characters, but also the build-up and anticipation of the viewers.
“Mel and Jack are such an epic couple that you really want to savor things as much as you can. We don’t want things to ever feel like they’re stalled, but we also want to enjoy [their engagement] while we can. So we’re moving at that pace with all of the things they have ahead of them, anticipating [a wedding] down the road,” he explained to TVLine pre-season 5 release.
A decision to postpone the wedding would probably not frustrate the audience so much if they found this stage of Mel and Jack's relationship at least somewhat enjoyable. Instead, many feel that the couple is surviving the lowest point of their lives from the very beginning of their romance, and there isn't much to enjoy.
Although a wedding in season 6 would mean that the characters would only be engaged for a little more than a few months according to the show's timeline, some fans believe that it would be for the best for both of them. After all, the marital bliss and honeymoon period might bring the charm that Mel and Jack had before.
As of today, there aren't many clues as to what will happen with the wedding and whether or not viewers will see it in season 6 of the show. Many believe that the decision that the writing team will make would also depend on whether Netflix will pick up the story for another season or decide to leave it on the 6th season.
Either way, there is a lot more to see from Virgin River in both the upcoming Holiday Special episodes as well as season 6.
