Virgin River's Biggest Timeline Issue Isn't Even In The Pace
The show can be slow-paced, but it can’t be dragged out.
Summary:
- Virgin River is a Netflix TV show adapted from Robyn Carr’s novel series of the same name.
- The story takes place in the town of Virgin River, where the main character Mel moves to after the death of her husband.
- The timeline of the show suggests that each season covers the events of about 1 month.
- While this makes for a very slow pace, it also makes each new season harder to watch due to the aging of the actors.
The beauty of television is that it allows people to find something that suits their tastes and needs. Therefore, the more variety there is in the shows, the better it is for the general audience. While some people want to immerse themselves in detailed fantasy worlds, others just want to relax their minds after a long day.
This is exactly what slow-paced dramas like Virgin River are good for. No matter how tired you are or how emotional your day has been, it's always there as a comforting blanket, offering the stories of some relatable characters trying to deal with their own everyday struggles.
You don't have to be constantly engaged, just like you don't have to be taking notes lest you miss some hidden meaning or twist. You can just enjoy the show, and that is more than enough for many viewers.
However, the longer the show goes on, the harder it is not to get distracted by the obvious changes in the appearance of the characters.
Virgin River Timeline Changes
On the verge of season 6, and with the promise of more to come if the network allows it, fans are only hoping to see at least some sort of time jumps in the future. Of course, it's going to be a little harder to adjust to the change five years into the show, but it would have been even harder to keep believing that the people of Virgin River are just so susceptible to aging.
While the show's production moves quickly, especially compared to some of Netflix's other shows, and they've already managed to release five seasons since 2019, it's still been long enough for everyone to notice changes.
The most obvious of all the actors is Chase Petriw, who portrays Christopher. The longer the show goes on, the more he grows, and the more it becomes clear that he's already way too old for his supposed age.
Maybe that's why we don't see as many other kids in the show: the production team wouldn't be able to keep up with all their appearances and recasts. Working with adults is easier because there are many ways to de-age someone for the camera. However, the less expensive and preferred method would be to simply adjust the writing.
If you are interested in seeing what Virgin River season 6 has in store for Mel and Jack, keep an eye out for more news and updates. As of now, there is no set release date for season 6, but you can watch all the previous seasons on Netflix.
