Virgin River May As Well Be a Doctor Who Special, Because Its Timeline Is Messed Up
Don’t you worry, no one understands how time works there.
Summary:
- Virgin River is a Netflix TV series that tells the story of a nurse, Mel Monroe, who moves from a big city to a small town called Virgin River. The series has now released 5 seasons and has been renewed for the 6th.
- The timeline of the show is full of events but feels extremely slow as one season is equivalent to one month of the show.
- Since Virgin River will premiere its holiday specials on November 30th, there is a chance that an upcoming season 6 will mark the beginning of a new year.
Given the state of the world around us, it's not surprising that viewers were willing to cling to the show that allowed them to escape to a small town and get lost in all the problems of the local people. If Virgin River wasn't the quietest for Mel, who ended up getting caught up in all the intrigue at once, it certainly was for the viewers.
From more violent and high-stakes shows like House of The Dragon, where someone is murdered at the stake in every episode, to the absurdity of Riverdale, modern television doesn't really allow its viewers to relax. Virgin River has carved out a perfect niche.
If only you choose to ignore the fact that everything you've seen in the last five seasons has happened in a span of five months.
Virgin River Timeline
If you've ever wondered how it is that Chloe is still an infant, well, here's your answer: it's because she would still be an infant in real life. While many people feel that Virgin River is the show that almost captures all the good sides of a soap opera and leaves the craziness behind, they're still not ready to go full SORAS on Chloe.
Of course, in real life, a lot can happen in a span of five months, but Mel and Jack's relationship is certainly developing much faster than most. From one milestone to another, through a seemingly two-day breakup and back into the relationship, they seem to be navigating their romance like two conflicted teenagers.
The odd pacing of the show becomes especially apparent when you look at Charmaine's condition in the background. She's still pregnant, and that's what makes the viewer realize how painfully slow and yet eventful each month in Virgin River is.
Besides, can you imagine living in a town with so many holidays and festivals in less than half a year? What a joy that would be! Even though it's only a few seasons, Virgin River fans feel like they've seen every possible festival and celebration on the show.
The only one left is Christmas. And that one is already promised to come our way on November 30th.
Virgin River Season 6: New Season, New Year?
Now that it has been confirmed that the season 5 finale will be in the form of a Christmas special, Virgin River fans are even more interested to find out if this will finally mean a time jump well into the new year.
Considering the pace that the seasons have taken so far, a major change would seem a little out of place, but if the show would sneak in at least a month or so between two seasons to properly address it, no one would really mind. With all the insanity that has happened over the past 5 months, it would only be fair to continue in the same vein.
Who will be revealed as Mel's father? Will Brie and Brady reconcile? Will Charmaine finally give birth to her children? While the timeline question is an important one, it is just one of many that fans of the show have for all the upcoming episodes. The good news is that the wait for answers won't be too long.
If you want to join Virgin River's Christmas celebration and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the winter holidays, be sure to tune in to the show on Netflix on November 30th.
Season 6 is already confirmed to be coming next, but there are no official details on when it will be released.
