Viral Fan Theory About Aemond Makes So Much Sense After House of the Dragon E4
There’s a much bigger reason for him to kill the ruling brother, according to fans.
House of the Dragon ’s latest episode titled The Red Dragon and the Gold had even George R.R. Martin’s novel lovers caught off guard since definitely no one saw that major plot twist coming.
It’s still true that nobody expected Rhaenys to die in the battle either, yet something much worse just foreshadowed even more tension in the Greens’ camp.
Finally bringing some real action into the season, the episode saw Rhaenys and Aegon in an attempt to kill each other until Aemond suddenly entered the scene and masterfully brought down both of them, proving that, apart from planning to avenge the Blacks, he was scheming against his own brother as well.
Such a turn of events (that even those who read the original novel couldn’t predict) came as a possible confirmation for a wild theory that was never addressed by the show, but now has one more reason to be true.
House of the Dragon has always been pretty clear about Aemond’s condescending attitude towards Aegon, mostly due to the latter’s embarrassing inability to rule the country.
Having a firm belief that he would be a better king (which actually makes sense), Aemond does have a valid reason to get rid of his brother just to accelerate his own inheritance of the throne.
However, a viral theory about the Targaryens’ infamous tradition of organized brother-sister marriages suggests that Aemond has another incentive to remove Aegon since he might be the real father of Helaena’s children.
According to many fans that kept an eye on the relationship between the siblings since House of the Dragon’s season 1, Aemond has always been much kinder towards his sister Helaena, while Aegon has only thought of her as a weirdo who he will eventually have to marry.
A minor possibility of Helaena’s kids being Aemond’s instead of Aegon’s has never been a matter in the show, though, after the major battle that saw Aemond betraying his brother, the theory is even more likely to turn out to be true.
Should Aemond indeed be a biological father of Aegon’s heirs, he has one more reason to kill Aegon just to give his kids a higher chance to get to the throne.
However, if this theory is ever confirmed, Aemond will never be the same for most of the viewers again, since he would be the only one responsible for Aegon’s completely ruined life.
With his brother constantly humiliating him at councils, then trying to kill him in a dragon fight and, on top of that, having a secret affair with his wife, Aegon’s whole life would come as something way worse and embarrassing than any other storyline that House of the Dragon ever featured.
