Upcoming 'Knuckles' TV Series: Here's What We Know So Far
Knuckles the Echidna is one of Sonic the Hedgehog's friends, who we already know as the keeper of Master Emerald in video games and animated series.
Apparently riding the wave of 'Sonic' movies success, director Jeff Fowler is already excited about the future of Knuckles, who is voiced by Idris Elba.
Despite there has been no release date for Knuckles' own spinoff series actually announced, rumors have circulated suggesting that it's just a question of time given how well the 'Sonic' sequel is doing in theaters.
When speaking to Discussing Film, Fowler said that it is still "very early" to talk about the Echidna's own series.
But...
"One thing I knew after we finished the film, people are going to love this character. They're going to love Idris playing this character and they're going to want more of Knuckles absolutely. So right now, all the focus is just on getting people excited and getting them out to see the sequel. Then, we'll go from there," Fowler said.
According to the director, Knuckles is a "wonderful character" that has the potential for his own successful series.
Judging by the fans' response, he's right.
The only thing Paramount confirmed about the series is that it indeed is in early development. It also looks like the show will feature Elba, whose performance in 'Sonic 2' garnered nothing but very positive response from critics and fans.
"Well, we don't know what it is yet, but we're finding it. Knuckles is a fish out of water. He's new to the planet. I think we might explore that little food blog or something," Elba told Screen Rant at the 'Sonic 2' premiere when speaking about Knuckles' future.
And, looking at what the second movie sets up for the red echidna, it seems that his solo show could revolve around Master Emerald – or around the new life on Earth that Knuckles finally got, having found himself new family and friends.
