While the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot is getting more surrounded with rumors that concern the film’s plot, there’s one more news about the movie’s cast — and it’s already confirmed.
According to Deadline, Emmy-winning actress Julia Garner, famous for her roles in Ozark and Netflix ’s Anna, has been chosen to portray Shalla-Bal, a version of the Silver Surfer.
Shalla-Bal is known in the MCU as the empress of her own utopian planet Zenn-La and, considering her extraterrestrial origin, the character’s main superpower consists in her extraordinarily long life span that has lasted for centuries.
Julia Garner is joining an already star-packed cast that includes Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The plot details are still a big mystery, though some revelations that come from the MCU’s insiders suggest that the film will stick to the original comic thus will unfold its plot in the 1960s.
The actress will also bring to the screen a renewed version of her character as the latter appeared in the Marvel’s movies only once before — back in 2007 when Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer was released.
The role of Silver Surfer then went to Doug Jones who demonstrated the character’s tense relationships with Fantastic Four and even fought with them until they eventually teamed up for opposing the supervillain Galactus.
So far there’s nothing to say about what paths Julia Garner’s Shalla-Bal will choose in the film, but the production is rumored to start soon this year.
Fantastic Four is set to hit theaters on July 25 next year.
