Unsettling Truth About How Rachel Brosnahan Got The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Role
When something is meant to be, there's nothing strong enough to stop it.
The Amazon show The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has been a real hit since its premiere in 2017. Four successful seasons have passed, and now the show is in its fifth season, causing a lot of buzz among fans.
And it's no wonder, because everything that happens in the life of Midge Maisel, brilliantly played by Rachel Brosnahan, is actually amusing, no matter if it's something wonderful or just another stage bombing.
Rachel's portrayal of Midge seems so natural that even a true fan would never suspect that she had any difficulties during the casting process.
But as the actress herself revealed, she was terrified to audition for the role. Well, it seems that she was afraid of the process in general, but the fact that the creator of the show was Amy Sherman-Palladino just added some fire to her fear.
The thing is, before Brosnahan got the big role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, she only acted in dramas.
And as we know, the biggest genre part of the series is actually comedy, so the actress felt very nervous while preparing for the first audition.
In fact, she said in the interview with Vulture that not long before, she decided to do something that she thought was scary for her. It shouldn't have been a comedy, but well, that's what she found.
"I auditioned with the wedding monologue, the big breakup scene with Joel, and the final stand-up. I left my first audition feeling like I'd sufficiently ended my career and was thrilled and surprised to be called back in and go out to L.A. to meet Amy and Dan [Palladino]," she revealed in the interview.
But something else happened that made her road to Miriam's role even harder: she got really sick and couldn't even make it to the callback audition because she felt so terrible.
Still, Brosnahan decided to get the part no matter what, and after some time she headed to L.A.
The actress was too afraid that the showrunners would just pass on her, so she had no choice but to show up in whatever condition she was in.
But luck was on her side. Apparently, the Palladinos had already decided that she would be the lead in their show. So as bad as things got for Rachel during the auditions, it was obviously worth it.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is now on its season 5 and is available on Prime Video. The next episode, titled The House Full of Extremely Lame Horses, will air on May 12.
