Unpopular Opinion Pins the Blame for Thanos Winning on an Unexpected Superhero
It's time to stop blaming Peter Quill, it seems.
A Reddit user SquirrelTheNut posted their take on the war against Thanos on the Subreddit called Unpopular Opinion. The author thinks it is time to stop blaming Quill for superheroes losing to Thanos and start blaming Gamora. Surprised? The Redditor actually makes some reasonably good points.
As you might remember, Thanos was the Big Bad in the MCU 's Infinity Saga, mostly acting in the latest Avengers movies, Avengers: Infinity War ( 2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Fans love Thanos for being a villain with a dream, even though his dream included erasing half of all life in the overpopulated universe. For that, Thanos needed all six Infinity Stones that were in one way or another connected with the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and other characters. Though the superheroes tried to protect the Stones and not let Thanos near them, the Big Bad managed to assemble all six within his Infinity Gauntlet and do what he had always wanted – the Blip erasing half the population of the universe.
In the process of Thanos hunting down the Infinity Stones, there were some opportunities for the Avengers and their allies to stop and even kill the Big Bad. The most striking scene showed Tony Stark, Peter Parker, Quill, Drax, and Mantis who managed to incapacitate Thanos and almost remove the Infinity Gauntlet from his hand if it weren't for Quill who got emotional and attacked Thanos for killing Gamora freeing him in the process. So it's no wonder many fans blamed Quill for the Blip, the verdict denied by SquirrelTheNut's unpopular opinion:
"It's time to stop blaming Quill as the guy who made the heroes lose. Gamora knew she was the only person in the universe that knew the location of the soul stone, and she still went after Thanos instead of running away from him. She also decided to choose to save one person (Nebula) over the lives of the whole galaxy by telling Thanos where the Soul Stone was."
While some of the MCU fans agreed with such an opinion, others said that there can't be one superhero to blame for how the events unfolded.
"Gamora for this reason, yes. Quill also shares fault. As does Thor, he had to have his moment of revenge in Wakanda. Wanda should have blasted the Mind Stone before Thanos ever got to Wakanda.
One could argue that if the Avengers were united from the start that Thanos would not have succeeded. Tony was right about that," one commenter wrote, supported by other Redditors.
The majority of fans agreed that it doesn't matter whose fault the Blip was. All those characters had to act as they did to ultimately defeat Thanos in the end since Dr. Strange had looked into all the variants of the future and chose the only one that led to the victory.
