Robin Williams Wanted Two Harry Potter Parts, Got Blocked by J.K.Rowling

It is not often that actors of Robin Williams' stature express such a strong desire to be in a movie, but in this case, the actor was not even allowed to enter the casting stage.

It is known that when selling the film rights, author J. K. Rowling set a condition to Warner Brothers — only British actors should be involved in the films about The Boy Who Lived.

In this way, Rowling wanted to give the movie maximum authenticity and, at the same time, provide work for many compatriots.

And perhaps because of this condition, the same thing happened in the American film industry as in the comic book industry — the so-called "British Invasion".

The nationality of the directors did not matter to Rowling — the first two films were directed by the Chris Columbus, who is American, and the third was brought to screen by the Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón.

But even world-famous American stars would not be allowed to audition for the parts. One of the victims of this limitation was the late Robin Williams.

The American actor really wanted to play Professor Remus Lupin, but the role eventually went to David Thewlis.

Robin could also portray another Hogwarts teacher, Rubeus Hagrid. For all fans of the Harry Potter movies, Robbie Coltrane is an example of a perfect woodsman.

However, Columbus initially wanted Williams to take the part, as the two worked together many times. He called the actor and made him an offer, by which the famous comedian was delighted.

Williams even wanted to sign a contract to participate.

However, J. K. Rowling had her own way of seeing things. Again, the requirement to cast only British actors in the movie kept one of the greatest comedians out of the casting.

There were also rumors that long before filming began, Rowling only had Coltrane in mind for the role of Hagrid, who eventually got the part.

Although Williams never played Hagrid, it's easy to imagine him in the role. Williams was known for his quirky personality and ability to bring warmth and humor to his performances.

Hagrid, with his kind heart and love of magical creatures, would be a perfect fit for Williams' talents.
