Twilight’s Unfairly Underrated Character May Get a Second Chance in TV Reboot
And it has nothing to do with the Cullens.
Summary:
- The Twilight ’s saga is famously known for centering its attention on the relationships between vampires and people, but there was another major storyline that wasn’t told properly.
- The origin of another significant character was brutally ignored in both books and movies, though it does have a lot of potential for one more interesting storyline.
- The creators of the upcoming TV reboot of the saga can possibly make it up to the undeveloped part of the whole story given that the animated format may give more space for creative decisions.
For several years that the Twilight’s saga was on screen, the fans have been nervously following the story about the relationships between a vampire and a human.
Though the plot based on Stephenie Meyer’s four books is focused primarily on the confrontation between vampires and people, it also briefly introduces another side of the story — and, just like in the books, doesn’t give it as much attention as it deserves to have.
Twilight movies show the main character Bella Swan being involved in a love triangle that makes her choose between vampire Edward Cullen and werewolf Jacob Black — and eventually she opts for the former.
As Bella’s personal love interest gets more and more focused on Cullens’ way of life among people, she seems to show some kind of disregard towards Jacob — and then the viewer’s interest in him fades as well.
Though Jacob’s story apparently isn’t less significant than the Cullens’ one here. The character’s descent, according to the books, goes from the ancient line of “shapeshifters,” meaning that he can transform into a werewolf.
Over the course of the plot in the series of films Jacob’s family and the members of his Quileute tribe are repeatedly introduced, but none of the movies ever dived deep into their original story.
New Moon, the second film of the saga, was the closest one to get Jacob out of Edward’s shadow — as the latter disappears, Bella gets more attached to Jacob as he’s one of the first friends that the main character found in the new place. Though Jacob’s storyline as well as his growing romantic feelings for Bella don’t have a chance once again with Edward coming back to the scene.
Now that the books are written and the film saga is over, there’s only one last straw of hope for Jacob’s story to be told in a proper way — and it can possibly happen in an upcoming TV remake of the famous fantasy drama.
As the reboot will come in the form of an animated series, there are even more creative possibilities for it to develop those storylines that were brutally overlooked in the original movies — and, hopefully, fans will finally get to see some untold parts of Jacob’s life story.
