Twilight OG Movies Director Has Some Advice For TV Series Reboot
With the new Twilight show upcoming, director Hardwicke shared her insight and advice to its creators — and she got some great suggestions that fans can definitely stand behind.
Rebooting already-popular franchises has become a common trend lately, and we can see it everywhere: from Disney religiously blurting out one live-action adaptation after another to major networks relaunching the stories that came up just a few years ago — like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson ( OK, Percy needs it), and Twilight.
Much like other franchises, Twilight already has its own movies, but now, it’s aiming for a full-blown TV show. While this will allow narrating of the original novels’ story more appropriately and completely, many fans are worried about potential miscasts and poor directing choices ruining their favorite franchise for the new generation.
The original movies with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are beloved by the entire fandom and still remain some sort of a guilty pleasure for people all around the world — so the concerned fans can rest easier knowing that the movies’ director, Catherine Hardwicke, gave some educated advice to the TV series creators.
“In the first one, we were able to keep it a little bit more grounded, just a little bit. You felt like there was some kind of reality to it, and you really felt the connection between Bella and Edward. So that might be a fun way to think about it, but also the chemistry between Edward and Bella is so important,” suggested Hardwicke.
The Twilight movies director doesn’t feel like the creators of the TV show are stepping on her territory — in reality, Catherine is excited to see the series and, after giving her advice, said that she’s “sure they're going to do all that cool stuff, too.”
Hardwicke thinks that a fresh take on the story is a great idea even though the movies are still being largely enjoyed by the fans (which she didn’t hesitate to mention while talking about how cool the new series would be).
"I think it's exciting! I think we see that it's an enduring story that people keep engaging with. You know, the TikTok world loves it, the internet generations, everybody keeps finding it. I was talking to a girl the other day, she was born the year we made the first Twilight film, and she was very passionate about it," shared the director.
We’re with Hardwicke on this one, to be honest, and think that her advice holds a lot of water. Keeping the TV show grounded will help the viewers feel like this story is happening somewhere out there, not just on their small screens, and this is exactly the sort of feeling that makes young adult novels and series become popular.
