Will Rick keep it in line with his comic book counterpart?

AMC dropped a teaser for the highly anticipated The Walking Dead spinoff, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. The teaser dropped a release month, which is actually pretty soon, — February 2024. But it also includes a couple of interesting scenes, with one of them being especially thought-provoking.

During the run of the original show, there was this age-old debate about whether Rick Grimes would ever lose his hand, just like in the comics.

For those unfamiliar with the comics, Rick's hand loss is a significant event. In the comic series, during a confrontation with the Governor (a major antagonist), Rick's right hand is abruptly chopped off.

In the show, Aaron took Rick’s toll in this sense, and he was the one who lost the arm. But, the teaser of The Ones Who Live might have just given us reasons to get a bit worried.

There's a scene where Rick is battling a walker, but his left hand looks really weird. It looks like he's got a prosthetic hand.

The biggest question: is this for real or is it just some dream sequence? The teaser does have a surreal vibe, with molten walkers and a fiery ambiance. It's almost as if Rick is trapped in a nightmare.

But then again, every shot of Rick in the trailer cleverly hides his left hand. So, it's entirely possible that Rick has indeed lost his hand.

Over the years, fans have speculated if the TV show would ever follow this storyline. Every time a new villain was introduced, the question popped up: "Is this when Rick loses his hand?" From the Governor to Negan, the anticipation was always there.

There is a possibility that Major General Beale, the new big bad from the CRM, set to be portrayed by Terry O'Quinn, is the one responsible for Rick's missing hand. It would be a brilliant way to establish him as a formidable villain. After all, nothing says "I'm evil" like chopping off the main character's hand.

Do you think Rick should lose his hand in the spinoff?

The teaser has certainly set the stage for an epic showdown. With Michonne and Rick trying to find their way back to each other and the looming threat of the CRM, it looks like the spinoff is worth anticipating.
