TWD's Daryl Dixon Spin-Off Shows the Apocalypse We've Never Seen Before: Spoiler-Free Review
After Dead City, The Walking Dead hits us with another spin-off that revolves about the man himself: Daryl Dixon. And let us tell you, this new show is nothing short of spectacular!
The Walking Dead franchise just refuses to die off: after so many years, it’s still alive and kicking, and each new spin-off revives it over and over again.
While we can’t promise to stop it with the “life and death” punches, we can promise you a quick, thorough, and completely spoiler-free review of the latest one: Daryl Dixon.
Synopsis
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon obviously follows the late protagonist of the original TWD series, Daryl, as he travels all the way over to France in his pursuit of…something. There, he finds a mysterious nun group who believe that they’ve found the messiah who will save the world — and he’s Daryl’s responsibility now.
Setting
The first thing that catches the eye is the stunning beauty of the scenery in every possible scene. Say goodbye to the boring and repetitive views of Georgia: even during the zombie apocalypse, France’s many faces are marvelous — from ancient castles to Parisian streets to the catacombs, you won’t stop admiring them.
Characters
This show definitely lets Daryl’s character bloom, and you’ll learn more about the man than during the numerous seasons of The Walking Dead. That largely happens thanks to his interactions with other phenomenal characters, primarily his protege Laurent, his former rival Isabelle, and his polar opposite Quinn. They’re all great!
Pacing
Across the six episodes of the first season, the show keeps a steady and pleasant pace that combines thrilling action scenes with more subtle and slow beats. You don’t find yourself overwhelmed and are able to fully immerse yourself into the story that is obviously but the beginning of something way more grand in the next seasons.
All in all, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is a fantastic addition to the ever-expanding family of TWD shows, and the focus on arguably the most beloved character of the original series only makes it better. The actors are incredible, the setting is sensational, and despite the many changes, it keeps true to the spirit of the franchise.
