TWD: Daryl Dixon's Most Predictable Storyline May Be There Just to Blindside Fans
Is Laurent immune or not?
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is so far one of the best content in The Walking Dead Universe after the conclusion of the main show, at least that’s what fans say.
However, there is a little problem with this series. It uses the same trope the popular HBO series The Last of Us did — having our protagonist escort a special kid who is a key to solving the apocalypse from A to B.
Even though many fans don’t seem to mind this similarity, a recent Reddit post questions if it is actually the same.
So, in TWD: Daryl Dixon, we are introduced to Laurent, a kid who is believed to be the new messiah. It is also implied that he is immune to the virus, presumably because he was born while his mother, Lily, Isabelle’s sister, was bitten.
The fan theory posted on Reddit suggests that Laurent being portrayed as immune might just be a distraction. While it's astonishing that he survived his birth, a significant theme in TWD is the absence of a cure or immune individuals.
Some fans believe that when Isabelle saw the St. Laurent statue, she might have been trying to justify her sister's death. She could be convincing herself that Laurent is some new messiah, especially since she's leaning heavily on her faith.
So far, the show hasn’t given us a single proof that Laurent is indeed who the nuns believe he is. So maybe he is not?
The idea of Laurent being immune might just be a narrative device for Isabelle's character arc. Some believe Laurent might not meet his end, and there's speculation that he could head to America with Daryl.
One intriguing point raised was Laurent's comment to Daryl: "You deserve a happy ending."
This mirrors Judith's words to Daryl in the original show's finale. It's too specific to be a mere coincidence. While it might not hint at immunity or a cure, it's leading up to something significant.
However, another point of view expressed by fans is that with its expanding universe, TWD can't just revolve around battling zombies and humans indefinitely. Introducing concepts like immunity or exploring the next phase of the apocalypse could be the way forward.
