After much turmoil, all three seasons of the Warrior TV series will arrive on Netflix in February 2024.

Summary:

  • Warrior TV series managed to earn the love of many fans by brilliantly mixing period crime drama with martial arts
  • Unfortunately, the show went through some tough times and was canceled twice during its run
  • Now, all three seasons will soon be coming to Netflix, which could give the project another shot at success

Warrior, the martial arts crime drama TV series starring Andrew Koji, has had an extremely bumpy history, with misfortune after misfortune haunting the project throughout its entire three-season run.

Originating on the Cinemax TV network, the show managed to capture the hearts of many viewers by masterfully blending elements of many genres to create something unique.

Set in 1870s San Francisco amidst the historical event known as the Tong Wars, a series of violent conflicts between numerous Chinese factions, the series follows Ah Sahm, a man who arrives in the city in search of his lost sister.

This proves to be no easy task, and as the story unfolds, Sahm becomes more and more entangled in the local intrigues, making a few friends and a lot of enemies along the way.

Despite Great Reviews, Warrior Has Been Canceled Twice

Fans praised the intense story, well-acted characters, unusual historical setting and great atmosphere that brought back memories of another iconic TV show, Peaky Blinders, spiced up with Asian themes.

Another element that set the show apart from the rest of the crime drama field was its focus on martial arts, resulting in some absolutely stunning, exceptionally well choreographed action scenes that many fans consider to be some of the best in the genre.

Sadly, after only two seasons, Cinemax was shut down, putting the show's fate in jeopardy, much to the dismay of fans, who even started a petition to save the project from imminent doom.

Much to their delight, HBO decided to give Warrior a second chance, resulting in the show being renewed for a third season, which debuted on Max in the summer of 2023 and received much praise from both critics and viewers, with some even calling it the best season yet.

However, given that the show's ratings, despite many positive reviews, left much to be desired even during its time on Cinemax, some fans expressed concern that season 3 would suffer the same fate and might become the show's last.

Unfortunately, those dire predictions came true, and the show's resurrection didn't last long, as Warrior was canceled just a few months later in December 2023.

Netflix Could Breathe New Life Into Warrior

But that doesn't mean that the show will be forgotten, as all three seasons will soon be released on Netflix in February 2024, hopefully giving the tragically underrated series a new life.

Given that Netflix is currently the largest streaming service in the world, with 260.28 million customers in many countries, exposing the show to a much larger audience than either Cinemax or Max could have ever dreamed of can only benefit the project.

After all, it wouldn't be the first time that a seemingly failed movie or show would suddenly experience a massive surge in popularity after joining the Netflix lineup, and Warrior definitely deserves it a lot more than some other mediocre projects.

Of course, it is too early to make any accurate predictions at this point, but who knows, if it does happen, maybe the show will return for at least one or two more seasons.

All three seasons of Warrior will be available on Netflix on February 16, 2024.
