What could've scared a Barbie Doll so much that she had an actual panic attack on the set of the movie? We bet you won't guess it.

When Alexandra Shipp auditioned for Gerwig's movie and booked the role of Writer Barbie, she was excited — but she didn't realize what she was getting into, exactly.

The actress was blown away by the sheer scale of the Barbie world created on the set... And the fact that she was now part of it.

"I just started crying because it's everything every little girl has ever dreamed of. They built an entire Barbie cul-de-sac, and we were just walking around it and she was like, 'Alex, this is your house,'" remembers Alexandra.

She was so astonished after getting her own "three-story Barbie Dream House" and a "little Barbie sports car" that her inner child became all too overwhelmed by emotions and the actress went into actual panic mode.

"Little me was having a full-blown panic attack. So when it came to how we were supposed to be moving, we were like, 'What do you want?' And [Gerwig] was like, 'I want you to feel natural because it's Barbie Land and though you are made of plastic, you can be as human as a doll could possibly be,'" shared the actress.

Apart from obviously throwing all things pink at the cast and having them wear special plastic-looking makeup, director Gerwig didn't restrict her actors in terms of looks.

She wanted every "Doll" to have her own personality brought in by the actresses.

According to Alexandra, Gerwig was really excited about everybody looking the way that Barbies should look, which is every shape and size.

After watching some parts of the film early, Shipp couldn't shake off her own excitement: she says it was beautiful to see them all together "looking like a gaggle of girls, but also a gaggle of dolls."

If you wish to share this excitement with the actress, you've less than a month to wait: Barbie will be released on July 21, 2023.
