Top 5 K-Dramas of 2024 on Netflix You Must Watch This Summer
If you missed their premieres.
The South Korean TV industry is probably one of the most entertaining out there. Really, you never know what to expect from each new show because the variety of stories is just too great and the show can end up being about literally anything.
A K-drama with a soul-crushing romance drama and the one where the main character turns into a chicken nugget turn out to be equally successful. And we think that's what makes the K-drama genre so popular with viewers.
2024 has been a big year for new releases, and now that you finally have some free time, you can binge watch the best of them. Try starting with these 5 K-dramas on Netflix, you won't regret it.
1. Queen of Tears
There was no way we would have started the list with something else rather than this 100%-rated K-drama that premiered on the platform in May. The show was on Netflix’s top for a long time and attracted a huge viewership. Queen of Tears features two beloved South Korean stars – Kim Ji-won and Kim Soo Hyun – playing a married couple who are both working in the same successful business.
But they come from different worlds. Hong Hae In is a chaebol heiress and her husband, Baek Hyun Woo, was born and raised in a small village. Now in their third year of marriage, they are facing a crisis that they will do anything to survive.
2. The Atypical Family
Another amazing K-drama to check out is this family drama with a supernatural twist. At the center of the series there’s a family whose members all have some sort of super power. We meet Bok Gwi Joo, who can revisit the happy moments of his life. He can’t change the past though, only able to dwell on these happy moments.
Unfortunately, he falls into depression and loses his supernatural powers. And the rest of the family, too, because of modern problems like insomnia, bulimia, smartphone addiction... But there's hope that everything would change now that Do Da He entered their lives.
3. A Killer Paradox
In the center of this K-drama is a college student named Lee Tang. One day he ends up in a rather messy situation when he gets into an argument with a customer while working in a convenience store and accidentally... kills him.
Like any other person, Lee Tang was filled with guilt after that, but only until he discovered that the guy he happened to murder was actually a serial killer. After that, he started slowly realizing that he has an ability to identify bad people. From that moment he couldn’t hide his urge to become a mysterious punisher. But there’s a catch…
4. Doctor Slump
Who doesn't love a great medical drama with a romantic twist? Well, Doctor Slump is your perfect choice if you like shows with such a premise. It tells the story of Yeo Jeong Woo and Nam Ha Neul over the years since they first met in school until they meet again at a very different time in both of their lives and become each other’s comfort.
“Although it has ample amount of comedy and romantic scenes, it is not a light hearted, cheesy, bubbly Rom-Com. The drama tackles the important subject of being in a slump and PTSD. While the FL has a supportive family, ML lacks an understanding parent. They become each other's strength and fall in love while navigating through their life,” Redditor MissSimpleton said.
5. Frankly Speaking
The series follows Song Ki Baek, a single 33-year-old man who works as an announcer at a broadcasting station and is considered to be the best in business. He is also very polite and well-mannered. Until one day he is suddenly struck with a disease that makes him speak without thinking. And you can only imagine what kind of problems this will cause in his life...
