Too Old & Too Famous: Bridgerton Fans Don't Want Cavill Anywhere Near the Show
You may think that audiences around the world would welcome an actor like Henry Cavill to any show or movie with open arms. Well, as it turns out, dashing looks and a name in the industry don't always work in every actor's favor.
In fact, Bridgerton fans have spoken and decided they don't want Cavill anywhere near the hit period drama. But why?
Henry Cavill is best known for his global breakthrough role as Superman in the 2013 film Man of Steel and his portrayal of Geralt of Rivia in the fantasy drama The Witcher . Cavill quickly gained popularity amongst fans, which can be attributed to many things, including his great acting skills and chiseled jawline. But as useful as this may seem on paper, when it comes to being able to land more acting jobs, Bridgerton may be the only exception, if the fans of the show had a say in this.
One Cavill fan expressed on Reddit how they would love to see him cast as Michael Stirling on Bridgerton. However, other users were quick to respond and not exactly positively. According to other Redditors, there are many reasons why they think he wouldn't be a good fit.
Will Bridgerton Survive For More Than 4 Seasons?
First of all, they think Cavill has too big of a name. They're convinced that with the amount of fame the actor has already garnered, it wouldn't work well within the existing Bridgerton ensemble. Most of the cast members are relatively new faces, and fans have loved to get to know them. On the other hand, others also point out that Cavill would never agree to do this show either, as he's too high profile for it and that the series would be punching way above its weight.
Secondly, Redditors think he's too old for the role of Michael Stirling. That's mainly because Michael's love interest, Hannah Dodd's Francesca Bridgerton, who he has a taboo affair with in the sixth novel of the book series, is far too young for him in real life for it not to be creepy. They also add that they already find the age gap between men and their wives in the books problematic enough, though it used to be standard for the Regency Era.
So no Henry Cavill for our favorite romantic period drama series. Yay?
