Tony Stark Died for Nothing in Avengers: Endgame, and It's Official
Avengers: Endgame was the doom of the superhero team's most beloved character who sacrificed himself to save the world… But as it turned out, it was completely unnecessary.
Tony Stark aka Iron Man is definitely one of the Marvel fans' top favorites. His sharp mind and tongue, dry humor, and undeniable charm took him to this pedestal.
We saw Tony struggle with PTSD and depression after he realized how weak his mortal body was, but he still came back to the Avengers team — and when the entire world depended on him, he rejected the limitations of his mortality and sacrificed himself.
It would be no exaggeration to say that Tony Stark's death is on par with Peter Parker's.
Both of them died protecting the Earth from Thanos, and both deaths were devastating and heartbreaking for the fans.
But to make matters worse, we can safely tell you that Tony Stark didn't need to die, and there was a much less sacrificial way of defeating Thanos.
During the final conflict, there was another Avenger present — the one who wouldn't have died if she chose to do what Stark did. It was Captain Marvel.
As seen in Avengers Unlimited: Infinity Comic #32, Captain Marvel was more than capable of dealing with the Infinity Stones without dying.
In the comic, the Avengers face a different group of supervillains, and those are in possession of the Zodiac Key, another artifact of immense power and energy.
The Key was emitting tremendous amounts of dangerous energy putting everyone around at risk, and Captain Marvel saved the day by…
Simply absorbing its energy into her body and then safely releasing it into space — without unnecessary casualties from her fellow Avengers whatsoever.
This proved that Captain Marvel could easily use her body as a medium to transport large quantities of dangerous energy through herself and avoid the damaging effects that would apply to any mortal — like, for example, Tony Stark.
Furthermore, in Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel had Iron Man's Infinity Gauntlet for a while meaning she could pull off the same trick then and there.
Since she didn't, Tony Stark had to sacrifice himself — and we ended up with a heartbreakingly inspiring yet totally unnecessary death scene for no good reason.
