Tom Selleck's Worst Movie Is So Terrible It Has a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes
Tom Selleck has been in some pretty stellar TV shows and movies.
The legendary actor first got his start in the 60s when he stumbled into the profession. However, it wasn’t until the breakout show Magnum, P.I. in the 1980s that Selleck accented to a whole new level of stardom.
Today, the 78-year-old actor remains relevant as the patriarch of the Reagan family in Blue Bloods.
Despite all the credentials (Three Men and a Baby, Quigley Down Under, The Rockford Files), Selleck has appeared in some truly horrendous films. And, one in particular, was so awful that it actually has a 0% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Folks! cries out to people, but not in a good way. It’s more like the screeching, annoying kind that has you willing to do anything to escape it.
The film is considered a comedy, but we’re not sure if that was intentional or not from the onset. Furthermore, the writer of this disaster (Robert Klane) is a bold man for being willing to have his name forever cemented to this project.
The same is true of a much younger Tom Selleck. Selleck plays the lead role of Jon, a decent guy with the honorable intention of looking after his parents in their later years.
However, one could argue that is the wrong call in Jon’s case, considering that his father burns down his mobile home and his wife leaves him because of the decision.
If that is not peculiar, as one critic summarized, you’ll really only enjoy Folks! If you’re the type of individual that laughs at car crashes and dementia.
We (think) the creative geniuses behind Folks! were attempting to install a little humor by highlighting a dilemma that confronts many children as they get older and the roles are essentially reserved.
Now, the children become the caregivers for their parents who, sadly, become less independent with age. Unfortunately, Folks! was not able to convey this message adequately and the result is insufferable.
Folks! is a quintessential example of how some films are so poorly written and executed that even an actor of Tom Selleck’s caliber is unable to rescue it.
The good news is that Folks! is a mere blimp on an incredible career. You’ll only encounter a handful of people who have heard of this trainwreck. Meanwhile, shows like Magnum, P.I. live on, as do memorable stints on TV series like Friends.
Today, bad movies are more idolized than ignored. People no longer have to burn hard-earned money on a DVD only to discover the movie sucks.
Often, we can turn to these hilariously bad movies on cheap streaming services when times get difficult, and we need a simple laugh. Thanks, Tom Selleck, you’re still the man… even in Folks!
