Tom Holland's Instruction On How To Fail A Star Wars Audition

Tom Holland has long been an actor who needs no introduction. The actor made a name for himself in the Spider-Man franchise, and many fans believe him to be the funniest and most vibrant incarnation of Peter Parker on screen.

He expanded his filmography not only with superhero and adventure films like Uncharted, but also with such complex and profound works as The Devil All the Time by Antonio Campos and Anthony Russo's Cherry.

It turns out that the actor could have been cast in another super popular franchise — Star Wars.

So what was it about a charismatic actor like Holland that did not appeal to the creators of the new Star Wars films? Turns out, he just couldn't stop laughing during the audition for John Boyega's role.

"I remember doing this scene with this lady, bless her, and she was just a drone. So I was doing all of this, like, 'We gotta get back to the ship!' And she was going, 'Bleep, bloop bloop, bleep bloop.'

I just couldn't stop laughing. I found it so funny. And I felt really bad, because she was trying really hard to be a convincing android or drone or whatever they're called," Tom admitted in an interview for Backstage.

Well, let's just say: this is very much in the spirit of the actor.

Holland also shared another story of audition failure, when the lead role eventually went to Ansel Elgort.

Tom auditioned for a role in the movie November Criminals by Sacha Gervasi, which he hoped would be a major springboard for his career, and came very close to getting the part.

The rejection unsettled him, but as the actor shared, his father gave him one of the most important advices that helped him move on.

Tom Holland's father, Dominic Holland, who is a comedian, writer and actor, has faced rejection throughout his career. According to his advice to his son, "that's part of success. If you won every single time, winning would become losing."

Sometimes you have to lose to win, and Tom's career is a perfect example of that. And who knows, maybe we are yet to see Tom Holland in the Star Wars universe in some different role?
