Tom Holland Explains Why You Have To Watch The Crowded Room Despite Horrible Reviews
Sometimes critics might be wrong too.
After a string of big, critically acclaimed movies, it must be hard for Tom Holland to face the backlash over his latest work in The Crowded Room.
Despite seemingly hitting the spot for all the true crime lovers out there and having more than enough talent on screen, the show ended up with some pretty unsatisfactory reviews.
While some call it "far too long and visually repetitive," others simply don't think it's worth watching. With a critical score of 31% on Rotten Tomatoes, the show almost promises to be ridiculous.
However, Tom Holland is very grateful for the fans who don't jump to conclusions before giving it a chance.
For those who are in the middle, curious but don't want to spoil their evening with something that doesn't deserve their time, the actor explained the message of the show in a shorter way. He shared it during an interview with Unilad's Get a Job!
“The message of the show, which can speak to so many different issues, is that asking for help should be something that we as a society celebrate. It’s an act of bravery. Whether it is substance abuse, whether it is abuse at home, whether it is abuse at school standing up and asking for help is not something you should be ashamed of.”
The actor later goes on to say that if they were able to touch at least one soul and make the message clearer to them, and maybe get them to seek the help they need, then that means they've done what they needed to do.
With such a selfless goal, it's no wonder that the critical acclaim doesn't seem to bother Holland too much.
In fact, judging by the difference between critical reviews and audience commentary, the message seemed to touch more hearts than the directing.
Although some of the viewers point out the same flaws as the critics, the 89% rating speaks for itself: the story of Billy Milligan will not leave anyone untouched.
If you want to check out the series and make up your own mind, the first five episodes are already available on Apple TV Plus. Don't forget to tune in on Fridays for more!
