Tom Hardy's Dirty Little Career-Launching Secret Can Leave You Speechless
Like many, the Oscar-nominated actor hasn't always done what he is proud of. When he was 21, he did something that launched his career, but he hoped no one would bring it up later in life.
In 2012, Tom Hardy went on The Jonathan Ross Show to talk about his movie The Dark Knight Rises, but the host had other plans in mind.
Jonathan was ready to bring forward a haunting clip from Tom's past – a video of him modeling on the British show The Big Breakfast.
Hardy looked beyond embarrassed (though he really shouldn't be, he looks great!) and kept rushing him to "get it over with."
That is one way of looking at things, we suppose.
As it turned out, in 1998, Tom entered the Find Me a Supermodel competition (and won, mind you). This earned him a brief contract with Models 1.
However, Hardy always wanted to pursue acting. Even back then, he is described as striving "to write and direct his own short films."
15 years later, Tom is an accomplished actor with a diverse career spanning decades!
Back then, Tom also said that his hero was Gary Oldman. Funnily enough, he got to act alongside him on several occasions – most notably, in 2011's Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, 2012's The Dark Knight Rises, and 2015's Child 44.
We are delighted that Tom Hardy's childhood dreams have come true, he has worked hard for all of this!
When asked if he knew Gary well now, Tom was acting coy, admitting to "texting" Oldman sometimes (and even getting a reply "occasionally"), but that was about it. Well, he must be a very busy man (they both are!).
It has been 11 years since that interview, and a lot has changed (but in a good way).
For instance, Hardy did his third Christopher Nolan movie, Dunkirk, in 2017 and then portrayed the iconic Venom in 2018 and then in 2021. Not bad for a decade, huh?
We are sure there is more to come for Tom Hardy. He is a great actor, and we will definitely be seeing more and more of him.
In 2023 (hopefully), we will enjoy his performance in Havoc, an action thriller centering around a detective who must uncover a web of conspiracy and rescue some people.
We can't wait!
