Tom Felton Got His Part in Harry Potter in the Most Slytherin Way Possible

They were both talented and powerful wizards, but whilst Harry was brave and kind, Draco chose a much darker path.

Slytherin house was one of the four houses students were sorted into at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and they were selected for this house based on qualities like resourcefulness, leadership, and ambition, as well as being of pure blood.

Slytherin along with Gryffindor house were the two strongest houses and in fierce competition with each other, but whilst Gryffindor house was seen as the house of heroes, Slytherin was seen as the opposite because Lord Voldemort had been a part of it, followed by students like Draco Malfoy.

Draco Malfoy was sorted into Slytherin's house the moment the sorting hat touched his head. He was of pure blood and possessed some of the qualities of a Slytherin, but they were all negative ones.

His wealth and family name gave him a sense of toxic superiority over others, as well as a nasty jealous streak, but above all Draco Malfoy was never shy to lie and cheat if it benefited him.

Tom Felton, who played Draco in Harry Potter has very different values from the character he played, except for one very "Draco" thing he did that landed him his iconic role.

Felton was amongst thousands of other hopefuls who auditioned for a part in the first Harry Potter movie.

He described himself as a snotty 12-year-old who didn't even know what Harry Potter was, and certainly hadn't picked up a book, surrounded by excited fans who had read all of the books and dreamt of landing a part.

It was only when he was lined up alongside other hopeful Dracos that he realized he may be in trouble.

Director Chris Columbus moved down the line asking questions about J.K Rowling's Harry Potter books, mainly which part each boy was most excited about being made into a film and when it came time for Felton to speak, he tried to fake having Harry Potter knowledge by repeating what the boy next to him had said.

It wasn't difficult for Chris Columbus to see straight through his lie.

Whilst Felton may not have been aware of who the character was that he was auditioning to play, he unknowingly portrayed one of Draco's core characteristics, lying, which made for a pretty convincing audition that set him apart from everyone else around him.

The Harry Potter actor will never be certain if that moment helped him land the role of Draco Malfoy, and whilst many people will argue that "Lying gets you nowhere," in Felton's case it did just the opposite and changed his life forever.
