Sometimes such sacrifices are part and parcel of the job.

After so many years, Tom Cruise is still one of Hollywood's most commercially successful actors. He leads a very controversial life, particularly in relation to his passion for Scientology.

It turns out that the actor also has some rather unusual requests when it comes to filming action movies – thongs.

Cruise wears them because they are "comfortable and flexible" and made from a soft, stretchy material, according to a source close to the actor.

Tom began wearing the underwear after experiencing discomfort during physically intense scenes. Cruise has performed numerous solo stunts in films including Mission: Impossible, Days of Thunder and Oblivion.

A source shared with Daily Star:

"There aren't many movies where you don't see Tom rolling around on the ground or doing a back flip off the side of a skyscraper. Over the years it's taken its toll and he had his wardrobe department rustle him up a comfy thong."

Costume designers keep up to 50 of these things on hand for filming so that Cruise always has a new pair.

"He's pretty insistent about having a new thong every time. We do have a laugh but he sees it as dedication to his craft," the source added.

The actor deserves only respect for such dedication to work.

This is yet another example of how Tom Cruise immerses himself in filming, which is one of the aspects why the movies in which he is involved continue to receive positive reviews from critics and viewers alike.
