Tired of Female Perspective? Why Was The Weeknd Unhappy With 'The Idol'
The HBO show is facing a creative overhaul, with director Amy Seimetz exiting 'The Idol' and one of the cast members, Suzanna Son, not being expected to return.
'Creative differences' are perhaps the two words that represent one of the worst nightmares in the media industry, as they have a potential to ruin practically any show. They were the reason for director Amy Seimetz to leave 'The Idol ' – the HBO drama series developed by 'Euphoria ' creator Sam Levinski and pop singer Abel Tesfaye, known as The Weeknd.
The latter, it seems, was unhappy with the creative direction of the show. According to Deadline, Tesfaye was not okay with the series leaning too much into "female perspective", pushing to the front his co-star Lily Rose-Depp's character, and not his own.
The fans have quickly come up with a good pun to respond to Tesfaye's grievances.
But some people refuse to believe that the creative overhaul stems from Abel's whim exclusively.
And others don't even consider it a whim.
The show was reportedly thought to have already filmed footage for some four or five episodes, but now, with the sudden creative shake-up, the show's fate and series order remains unclear.
"The Idol's creative team continues to build, refine, and evolve their vision for the show and they have aligned on a new creative direction. The production will be adjusting its cast and crew accordingly to best serve this new approach to the series," an HBO spokesperson told Deadline.
