But get ready to be surprised.

The love towards westerns is easily understandable: which other genre can give us so many different stories at the same time? There’s always a pride and honor plotline, a romantic story, some family drama, and of course good-old fight scenes in a picturesque landscape.

For many years after the golden era with Wayne and Eastwood the role of an iconic western leading man went to Kevin Costner, especially amid the tremendous success of the Yellowstone series.

But we think it's only fair to mention another brilliant western performance by another A-list actor, Pierce Brosnan. The former James Bond and Mamma Mia star actually made quite an impression as Eli McCullough, the greedy Texas oil tycoon in a western series called The Son.

The Son is a multigenerational epic that tells the story of Eli’s life from his complicated childhood to the times when he becomes a father of the family. As a child he was captured by Comanche warriors, and that exact experience shaped his ruthless approach to life and business.

Brosnan’s character in the series is actually a definition of pure evil. He plays the aging oil tycoon who only knows how to brutally eliminate anything that slightly comes as a rival. His only desire is to stay in control, and that’s why the series gives off these extremely dark and gritty vibes.

The series only lasted for two seasons and aired on AMC from 2017 till 2019, but still it made quite an impression on the fans of the genre. They are particularly fond of the perfect cast.

“Pierce Brosnan alone is worth watching it for. It’s only 2 seasons, ten episodes each. Zahn McClarnon is also really good in it. So is Elizabeth Frances who plays Prairie Flower. James Parks, who plays Niles Gilbert, is really good. You could tell it was a lower budget production, but they did moderately well with what they had,” Redditor Gearsofted14 said.

It’s not quite usual for us to see Brosnan playing a disgustingly evil part, but that’s exactly what makes this western a must watch. The Son is available for streaming on Prime Video.
