Tim Allen Gets Real About His Biggest The Santa Clause 3 Regret

The most recent installment in the series was The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, which hit our screens with mixed reviews in 2006.

Yet, as Tim Allen reprieves his role as the Big Man himself alongside his own daughter, 13-year-old Elizabeth Allen-Dick, he has revealed his biggest regret from The Santa Clause 3.

'Overshot the runway'

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tim Allen revealed that everyone "overshot the runway" when making The Santa Clause 3. After the huge success of The Santa Clause in 1994 and The Santa Clause 2 in 2002, the production team wasn't short on cash. While they'd only had $11 to play with for special effects in the first movie, by the third, money was no object. As such, the plot exploded and was huge.

As Allen revealed, he and Martin Short (who played Jack Frost) didn't even film any big or funny scenes together.

This 'overshooting' meant that when Allen decided to put his red suit back on for The Santa Clauses, he really wanted to rein everything in and get back to basics – and magic.

After making such a request, Jack Burditt, The Santa Clauses writer and creator, added in some scenes that push the essence of Christmas in all its magical glory. Allen described one of them as "a very simple, wonderful scene with all the other Santa Clauses."

What must also be magical for Tim Allen is that on The Santa Clauses, he was able to work with his own daughter for the first time as she took on her debut screen role. Elizabeth, who is 13 years old, recently appeared in an Entertainment Tonight interview with her father in which she said "he was there when I needed help, but he also let me kind of figure it out, too, which I really like."

So, is The Santa Clauses worth a watch?

If you've grown up watching the Santa Clause movie franchise, then you'll no doubt appreciate Tim Allen returning to our screens donned with his fat suit and red outfit. Allen himself believes the new series to be good. He said: "we worked our ass off to make this funny and wonderful for the audience. That's the only reason we did it."

Isn't it refreshing when stars can be so open about their failings and come out the other side? Allen knows why The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause received mixed reviews at the box office and really went back to the magic of Christmas with this series. And seeing him play alongside his real-life daughter is simply the icing on the cake!
