There are less than six months until the movie premieres.

Director James Gunn, after the success of the first Guardians of the Galaxy, repeatedly stated that he would like to make a movie about the Thunderbolts, but Disney executives did not give him a clear answer, so Gunn made a movie about villains doing a good deed for Warner Bros. and DC – we are talking, of course, about the comic book movie The Suicide Squad.

After that, Gunn cooled off a bit on the subject of villains on the road to redemption, and completely in vain, as Marvel bosses decided to give the green light to the Thunderbolts.

Is Thunderbolts Reshoots a Bad Sign?

It was recently announced that reshoots for Thunderbolts have begun in Atlanta. This may be cause for concern, as Marvel recently had to reshoot Captain America: Brave New World after it flopped in test screenings.

In this case, however, it may not be a bad script or plot holes. The official reason has not been revealed, so we can only guess.

It could be that the lighting in some scenes was set up incorrectly, an extra object, such as a coffee cup, accidentally ended up in the frame, or the studio decided to include hints about the team's future role in Avengers: Doomsday.

Reshoots have long been a standard part of the Marvel production process. In addition, only director Jake Schreier has been spotted on set so far, and the absence of the cast can be seen as a positive sign.

Thunderbolts Plot & Release Date

The film, which has been in development since 2021, is said to feature a formidable team of villains and antiheroes who will band together to carry out a top-secret mission for the US government.

Thunderbolts is scheduled to premiere on May 2, 2025.

Thunderbolts on the Pages of Comic Books

In 1996, the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men comics faced a new supervillain – an immaterial entity composed of dark fragments of the personalities of Magneto and Professor Charles Xavier.

The villain, who took the name Onslaught, took Franklin Richards hostage and threatened to destroy the entire world. After the battle with Onslaught, the members of the Avengers and the Fantastic Four disappeared from reality and were presumed dead for some time.

There was a noticeable shortage of superheroes, but the vacuum was filled by a new team that appeared out of nowhere – the Thunderbolts.

The last page of the first Thunderbolts comic revealed a dark secret: the team was not actually made up of superheroes, but of villains who had changed costumes and names.

Helmut Zemo decided to take advantage of the Avengers' disappearance and create a replacement team to ingratiate himself with S.H.I.E.L.D. and other government agencies, gaining access to their resources and secrets.

It was a solid plan, but Zemo had no idea that the villains he assembled would enjoy posing as good guys so much that they would eventually want to become respected superheroes. As a result, the Thunderbolts became just another team of heroes with a dark past.
