You've never seen a crime drama like this before.

Bruce Lee dreamed of telling this story in the 70s. Half a century later, Lee's daughter Shannon took over the project, and the script fell into the hands of Justin Lin, director of several installments of The Fast and the Furious. The showrunner was Jonathan Tropper, known for Banshee – a crime TV show with an abundance of violence.

All this is Warrior, perhaps the best martial arts crime drama of the 21st century.

What is Warrior About?

The events of Warrior take place in San Francisco. The city is in constant conflict with Chinese clans and Irish who have lost their jobs to the newcomers. The police are either trying to maintain order or are beholden to politicians and rich Asian gangsters.

The main character of Warrior, Ah Sahm, comes to America in search of his sister, but already in the harbor he attracts the attention of the Hop Wei clan and gradually becomes immersed in the city's showdowns. Thanks to his excellent knowledge of English, he becomes a guide for the other clan members in the unfriendly "white world."

Warrior is a Unique Show that Was Canceled Due to Poor Marketing

Despite the big name of Bruce Lee among the scriptwriters, Warrior is not only a spectacular action show, but also a good historical drama – this is what Peaky Blinders would look like if the action took place in Chinatown.

However, the series suffered greatly from poor marketing and was unjustly canceled in 2023 after only three seasons. Warrior has a 93% approval rating from critics and a 96% score from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

Warrior is an Explosive Mix of Action, Historical Drama and Neo-Western

Warrior is a rare example of a neo-Western in the modern television industry. This is a new look at the most cinematic of places and times – the American West as it evolved.

This is no longer a showdown of harsh Europeans in the kingdom of prairies and saloons, but no less harsh, but much more exotic, rarely shown on the big and small screens, the life of Chinatowns, Chinese and other diasporas living in neighborhoods where their own lives are in full swing, often not quite legal.

In the very first episode, the main character will be up to his neck in the strange and terrible world of opium dealing, prostitution and contract killings, which will be fascinating to watch throughout all three seasons.

Where to Stream Warrior?

All three seasons of Warrior are available on Netflix , Max and Prime Video .
