Thomas Brodie-Sangster Got Candid About GoT Finale: "I Haven't Met Anyone That Likes It"
It should be no surprise that Thomas Brodie-Sangster can’t find anyone who says they liked the finale to Game of Thrones.
People of that persuasion are pretty hard to come by for anybody. Although you might have thought a few of his friends and family would have at least said they like it given that he starred in earlier seasons of the show.
In an interview with NME in 2020, the actor (who is perhaps still most recognisable as the lovestruck drummer in Love Actually) said he was only halfway through watching the series himself, but that nobody he knew seemed to have anything good to say about it – with many people critical of the entire last season.
"I did really enjoy it. Lots of people really like it, except no-one seems to like the last episode or the last season. I haven’t met anyone that likes it so far."
The actor, who portrayed Jojen Reed, has no complaints about his own ending in the show though, which he described as "cool".
And he's not the only actor from the show to criticise the way it ended. Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister) is on record as saying he would have signed the petition that was going around following the last episode and demanded it be rewritten.
Other stars who have been less than positive about the conclusion to the series include Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) who described it as "disappointing" and Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo) who wasn't happy about Dany's ending.
But if Brodie-Sangster wants to find someone who does like the ending, maybe he should get in touch with some of his acting buddies who also had parts in GoT.
Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Carice Van Houten (Melisandre), Gwendoline Christie ( Brienne of Tarth), Masie Williams (Arya Stark), Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, (Jaime Lannister) have all said good things about the final season and last episode of Game of Thrones.
And Emilia Clarke ( Daenerys Targaryen) has only praise for her character's arc and subsequent death which she said saw Dany "taken care of".
Others are a little more on the fence. Lena Headey, who played Cersei Lannister said she had "mixed feelings" about how her character departed the show. Although she acknowledged that there was a certain "poetry" about Cersei dying alongside her twin brother.
And Richard Madden, who played Robb Stark was unable to comment on any of the above as, when asked in 2019, he said he hadn't even seen any of the final season.
