While the original show was slow in its decline, Fear the Walking Dead went from great to garbage almost instantly.

The Walking Dead is now infamous for being one of the most glaring examples of how a great TV show can fall into mediocrity over time.

Up until season 5, the show seemed to be getting better and better, but with each subsequent season, the slow decline became more and more apparent, to the point where many fans stopped watching the show altogether.

However, the situation with its first spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead, seems to be even more tragic, because unlike the original series, which was relatively slow in its decline, the spin-off went from being quite good to utter disappointment right after season 3.

The show was building momentum, with the third season being considered by many fans to be the best of the entire franchise, and they were eager to see what the creators had in store for them with the next season, as it seemed that Fear had a bright future ahead of it.

But when season 4 arrived, they were stunned by the decline in quality, as the series almost instantly turned into a bland, boring and incoherent mess, leaving fans feeling bitter and betrayed.

It is hard to pinpoint exactly what happened, with some fans putting the blame on Scott M. Gimple, who became the show's executive producer in season 4, as some also blame the decline of the main series on his influence.

The other possible reason is that the writers killed off most of the main characters over the course of three seasons, and their replacements simply weren't written as well as their predecessors.

So, in classic The Walking Dead fashion, the studio decided to drag the show out as long as possible, completely disregarding the final quality of the product.

Fortunately, the franchise seems to have caught a second wind, as the most recent spin-offs of the franchise, Dead City and the just-released Daryl Dixon, felt like a breath of fresh air for fans who had given up all hope.

Episode 2 of Daryl Dixon is scheduled for release on September 17, 2023.

Do you find the decline in quality of Fear the Walking Dead even more painful than the original show?
