This The Boys' Ending Would Be Much More Cathartic Than the Comic Version
In anticipation of The Boys season 4, fans are speculating about what ending of the Amazon Prime series could outperform the finale of the comic book series.
The Boys, an original comic series, written by Garth Ennis and co-created by Darick Robertson ran from 2006 to 2012. It means that the events happening in The Boys, an Amazon Prime series, are more or less known to long-time fans. However, the series has already drifted away from the comic canon, changing the background stories and arcs of major characters. So it remains unknown if the show will end the same way the comics series did, which leaves many fans intrigued and speculating.
Beware of the possible spoilers for The Boys finale.
In the comic books, the final battle between Butcher and Homelander is not the end of the story, as you might have thought. Homelander dies, but not at the hands of Butcher. He is killed by – wait for it – Black Noir who turns out to be a Homelander's clone and the one who committed many of his crimes including the rape of Becca Butcher.
Soldier Boy's Return Means Something Big for The Boys Season 4
Butcher still takes his revenge, killing Black Noir while he is weak and wounded from the battle with Homelander. But the self-destructing journey of Butcher is not over. He becomes the new antagonist of the story, deciding to kill all Supes with a chemical weapon. The Boys try to stop him from committing genocide and all die except Hughie, who in the end becomes the one killing Butcher and saving Supes.
It remains unknown if the creators of the Amazon Prime series will adapt the comic book ending, which could be difficult considering Black Noir was killed in season 3 and looked nothing like Homelander.
On the other hand, the death of Homelander in the end looks highly possible and makes fans think that dying is a far too easy way out for the sociopathic murderer. Viewers want him to suffer.
Many fans agreed that a much more fitting ending for Homelander would be to take away his powers and put him into protective custody, forcing him to live the remainder of his life as a usual person he has always despised. As an additional punishment, fans wished Homelander to become lactose intolerant.
The Cringiest Character on The Boys is Actually One of the Good Guys
However, many agreed that it is out of character for Homelander to live powerless and humiliated, he would rather kill himself. That gave birth to a perfect final Homelander scene described by one of the Redditors:
"Imagine if the guards walk in on Homelander and we see just his feet floating above the ground. The audience is led to believe that he regained his powers. Then the camera cuts out and it's shown that he just hanged himself."
