The only way to treat these patients is to play along.

There are many crazy theories floating around the web where fans of iconic shows, movies, and books try to express themselves and their feelings about their favorite stories by twisting the narrative or finding hidden meanings behind characters and events.

It may seem that this task is much too difficult for the fandom of a highly scientific show like The Big Bang Theory. At first, the story tells us about the lives of four scientist friends, Leonard, Sheldon, Raj and Howard, who then meet their pretty but not so smart new neighbor, Penny.

This premise is so realistic that it's hard to change, but you'll be surprised at the imagination of Big Bang Theory fans. As redditor Organic_Macaroon_178 suggested in his post for the r/FanTheories subreddit, none of the guys are real scientists.

To make things easier to understand, the author suggests an analogy to the Martin Scorsese film Shutter Island. Basically, all 4 best friends are mental patients in need of constant treatment, and all the scientific knowledge they have is gibberish in real life.

This theory is supported by the fact that we hardly see any of the guys doing any work. All they do is talk smart and spend their days playing video games, reading comic books, or watching TV.

Howard's crazy storyline about becoming an astronaut, Raj's selective mutism that gets cured very randomly, and Penny's desire to always be around them would be easily explained if it was all part of their treatment journey.

Speaking of Penny, Amy and Berandette, their roles would be medical professionals trying to help their patients get better. Would their close relationships in such a scenario be highly inappropriate in real life? Absolutely, but that would honestly explain their commitment to maintaining rather difficult relationships with these characters.

The story has some major flaws, as it doesn't explain how Raj ended up being the only person without a personal caretaker, or what role Stuart plays in the whole equation. However, it could be a fun way to revisit the series if you feel like it.

You can stream the show on Netflx or MAX, and tell us how it went in a poll below.

Do you think this theory holds up after a rewatch?
