This Supernatural Episode So Bad, It Shouldn't Be Considered Canon
The Supernatural fandom rarely agrees on anything. However, there is one episode that just about everyone hates.
When fans, critics, and even the cast come together to publicly admit that a certain episode of their show is an absolute nightmare, you know it's probably not just about taste.
When it comes to Supernatural, it has its own worst of the worst episode, and we're talking about Bugs, a cursed chapter in season 1 where Sam and Dean traveled to Oklahoma to investigate a rash of insect-related deaths around a new housing development.
And about two decades after the episode aired, the entire fandom agrees that they should have stayed home and enjoyed some pies.
There are several major problems with the infamous episode. First of all (as you can probably guess from the episode title), there are a lot of bugs throughout the episode. If you have a phobia of insects, this episode is an immediate skip for you, because it starts with insects eating a guy's body and ends with Sam and Dean in an actual swarm of bees.
Second, according to fans, the episode is so bad story-wise that it cannot even be considered plot armor or lazy writing.
"It's beyond lazy writing or plot armor, they just write themselves into a corner and then ignore it. The boys never actually solve the case. It's an insult to the audience's intelligence. That's why everyone thinks it's so horrible. It literally makes no logical sense at all," Redditor lionne6 explained.
Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki were not too pleased with the episode either, revealing at a fan convention in Denver that they actually had to film the final scenes in the swarm with, you know, a real swarm of bees. Of course, they got stung, but the worst part is that the real insects were replaced by CGI anyway, so the torture of filming the scene while being stung by bees was all for nothing.
Also, the episode has an unenviable score of 6.8/10 on IMDb, one of the lowest in the entire series. The only episode with a lower rating, 5.8, is the ninth season's Bloodlines, a failed attempt at a Supernatural spin-off.
So yes, we are all better off forgetting that Bugs ever existed.
