Prime Video’s Fallout TV show is filled to the brim with references to the original video games, but this subtle Easter egg managed to escape most fans’ attention.

Disclaimer: This article contains spoilers for Fallout Season 1 Episode 8.

You could write research papers on the countless smart and sneaky Easter eggs and references to the original games Prime Video ’s Fallout TV show added here and there throughout Season 1. From sounds and objects to entire game mechanics, the series made sure to treat the OG fans with some fun nods and winks to their favorite games, but not all Easter eggs have been uncovered so far.

Fallout Honored Its History with a Smart Detail

Despite being literally filled with references, Prime Video’s Fallout mostly nods at the latest games, the ones made by Bethesda Softworks. The two original Fallout games received much less Easter eggs and high-fives… Or so it may seem — because fans only recently found a smart and subtle nod at the very first Fallout game ever.

In Episode 8, when Hank MacLean enters his Vault-Tec access code for the cold fusion particle, we can see the screen perfectly well. Hank types in 101097 which may seem like just a random combination of numbers — until you notice that it looks like a date and realize that it’s the day of Fallout 1’s release! The game that birthed this amazing post-apocalyptic franchise came out on October 10, 1997.

Fallout and Easter Eggs Is a Match Made in Vault-Tec

Despite only having eight episodes in its debut season, Prime Video’s Fallout did the impossible, endearing new audiences with its twisted and unique setting and story and booking the loyalty of OG fans by making sure to remain faithful to the source material. But references proved to be the show’s second most effective weapon when it comes to blasting its way to video games’ fans.

With immaculate attention to detail and thanks to Bethesda team’s close collaboration, the creators of Fallout filled the series with so many nods to the games that even the biggest skeptics had to admit that its crew clearly cared. We’re excited to see what else they’ll manage to sneak in in Season 2 — and if we’re being frank, we’re certain there’s more to be found in S1, like the subtle 101097 reference.
