Being Mr. Bigshot is not that bad after all.

Summary:

  • Ross is not a total failure as a human being.
  • Mr. Geller was unfair to Ross when he accused him of being a show-off.
  • Ross actually felt bad for Rachel for having such a cheap father.

Friends introduced us to our favorite group of people: Chandler, Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Joey and Ross. And even though they all had their flaws and weren't perfect people, they still managed to capture our hearts.

However, one of the main characters somehow ended up disappointing us more than the rest of the gang. And all the hardcore fans realized that we were referring to Ross. The "we were on a break" storyline will forever be the defining one for the character, and there's no coming back from a failure like that.

But even if we can't forgive him for betraying Rachel so badly, maybe we should try to find something good in his personality. Frankly, it's not that hard to do. For example, we know from the very beginning of the show that he is a great father. He handled Ben perfectly, and later, when Emma came along, he was in his best dad mode.

Another pivotal moment in the series that really showed us Ross as a caring man with strong opinions and beliefs was when he went to the restaurant with Rachel and her father in episode 7 of season 3.

For those who don't remember, it was an iconic scene. At the end of an already disastrous dinner, it turned out that Mr. Green is actually quite cheap when it comes to tipping. When Ross found out that he only left 4% of the bill, he actually freaked out at the injustice.

However, Rachel asked him not to make a big deal out of it and to let it go, but it wasn't in Ross' nature to let things go, so he added another $20 to the tip. When Mr. Green realized this, he accused Ross of showing off and suggested that he pay the whole bill instead of just adding some money to the tip, calling him Mr. Bigshot.

Well, fans think that Ross didn't deserve such an attitude and that he wasn't showing off but was actually concerned about Mr. Green's behavior.

“It was clear Ross' reaction was genuine. If he just wanted to show off he'd have just dropped an extra $20 or $50 on the bill regardless of what Dr. Green put. He genuinely seemed upset that the tip was small and also recognized how insulting it was to Rachel that her own father did that despite her being a waitress,” Redditor SaintArkweather said.

Friends is available to stream on Max.
