This R-Rated Anime on Prime Video is a Must-See for Every Demon Slayer Fan
There are no demons, but there's something even cooler – dragons.
A hero against a horde of enemies is not a new plot for anime. You don't have to look far for an example: Demon Slayer, one of the most popular series, is also about a guy who kills monsters and fights increasingly powerful opponents to challenge the main boss at the end.
But the new anime Ragna Crimson, released in 2023, tries to, if not reinvent this formula, at least fill it with such a dynamic narrative and a sea of violence that the viewer completely forgets all the cliches of the genre and its other representatives.
What is Ragna Crimson About?
Dragons are fierce and bloodthirsty creatures that have terrorized mankind since ancient times. To protect themselves from them, dragon hunters began to appear among the humans, armed with special silver weapons – only they are able to repel the powerful monsters.
But even they are not enough when the dragons begin a great war to destroy the human kingdom at the whim of their deity. One of the hunters, Ragna, teams up with the mysterious wizard Crimson to stop the monsters once and for all.
Ragna Crimson's Main Character is Unusual for Shonen Genre
Already in the first episode, the authors managed to show both the spectacular beginning of the war, when an entire city is wiped off the face of the earth, and the very atypical origin of the main character. He does not follow the stereotypical path from a clumsy novice to a master of combat.
The version of Ragna from the future, who has already gone through all the hardships and lost his loved ones, sends the young man all the strength and experience he has accumulated. Thus, the protagonist immediately turns into a relentless dragon-killing machine. And instead of a classic cute partner, he is paired with a psychopath with a villainous grin.
Ragna Crimson is Filled with Adrenaline, Fights & Great Characters
The entire narrative revolves around dragon battles, but the series maintains interest primarily through unexpected twists, subplots, and secondary characters – without overemphasizing the main character.
Ragna Crimson is one of the biggest and most impressive anime projects in recent times, and is definitely worth the attention of any fan of not only Demon Slayer, but the shonen genre in general.
