Nothing can spoil a good trope, after all.

Summary:

  • Perfect Marriage Revenge is a K-drama that tells a story of revenge that the wife gets at her abusive husband after being thrown back in time.
  • The very same plot lies at the base of the new tvN show Marry My Husband.
  • Despite the two series being so similar in storyline, viewers are still convinced to watch both to compare.

If there is one thing that K-drama stans usually don’t seem to worry about it’s the repetitiveness of the shows. As the dramas tend to heavily rely on a variety of popular tropes, whether they are romantic or not, the plots and storylines in many cases aren’t drastically different.

It’s a matter of acting, dialogue writing, and visuals to make the difference.

That is why the premise, the poster, and the overall similarity of the upcoming show Marry My Husband which is about to premiere on January 1, 2024, on tvN, to the already-existing Perfect Marriage Revenge doesn’t really raise too many eyebrows. If anything, it makes the viewers even more excited to watch the two and compare.

Is Marry My Husband Worth Watching?

Just like The Perfect Marriage Revenge, the series tells the story of an abused woman who is given the chance to relive the years of her life leading up to the moment her marriage fell apart. The main difference is the level of violence, as the female lead of Marry My Husband begins the series murdered by that very same husband.

The female lead Ji-won is played by Park Min-young, while her abusive husband is played by Lee Yi-kyung. The romance, however, will be between Ji-won and Ji-hyuk, who will help her get her revenge while hiding his true feelings for her.

While the casting is well-established in Korean dramas, fans are wondering if they'll be able to watch at least one episode of Marry My Husband with a straight face. While there's no doubting Lee Yi-kyung's acting talent, viewers remember him for his comedic performance in Welcome to Waikiki, which will be hard to top in any other drama.

Although the announcement of Marry My Husband was not met with overwhelming excitement and no one sees too much potential in it so far, many still admit that they will watch it just because of how good the setup is and how much they enjoyed such a premise before.

So if anything, Perfect Marriage Revenge only helps Marry My Husband find its audience. If you're interested in checking it out for yourself, the drama is scheduled to air on Netflix later in 2024.
