A gripping confrontation between a traumatized investigator and a madman.

James Patterson wrote the first book about Washington investigator Alex Cross in 1993. Detective novels about the talented hero are still in high demand. To date, more than 30 books have been written about Cross.

Three feature films have been made from Patterson's books. The movies were relatively successful, but for the first time a series is being made about Cross.

Even before the premiere, the show was renewed for a second season, so Amazon Prime Video producers hope to adapt several of Patterson's books.

What Is Cross About?

One year ago, an unknown assailant shot and killed the beloved wife of Detective Alex Cross, Maria, in broad daylight in Washington. A year later, the detective, who never recovered from the loss of his wife, returns to work.

An activist and fighter for equal rights, Emir Goodspeed, has been killed in the city. There are protests in the streets and the police are accused of inaction. All of Cross' colleagues are sure that Emir overdosed or committed suicide.

Alex, however, has no doubt that the killer has been preparing the crime for a long time. Cross soon realizes that a madman has arrived in Washington.

Cross Is Reminiscent of Luther

Perhaps most of all, Cross is similar to Luther. Only the action is set in Washington rather than London. Luther had a hard time getting over his separation from his wife, and Cross is still recovering from the death of his wife.

Otherwise, the detectives have a lot in common: both are charismatic, physically developed, have leadership qualities, are excellent at reading people, are living legends, and try to think like criminals.

The main success of the series is the actor who plays Alex, Aldis Hodge. Following in the footsteps of Idris Elba, the actor portrays a detective who sometimes breaks the law and neglects his personal life for the sake of order and truth.

Cross Is a Good Old-School Detective TV Show

Cross is an old-school show that deliberately does not try to reinvent the genre. It is a pure detective story with all the familiar elements. However, Alex has been given an exciting investigation, so there is no time to get bored.

A good detective story requires a quality confrontation between an investigator and a killer. Both are talented in their own way, but there can only be one winner.

Where to Watch Cross?
