This Just Might Be the Cringiest Oscars Acceptance Speech Ever
The Oscars are known for a lot of things: the glitz, the glamour, the red carpet, and of course, the acceptance speeches. But what happens when those speeches go wrong?
Take the example of the makeup team from Vice. They may have won an Oscar, but their speech left much to be desired.
Greg Cannom, Kate Biscoe, and Patricia DeHaney undoubtedly deserved the award for their work on Vice.
Christian Bale ( and his weight gain) may have been the talk of the town for his portrayal of Dick Cheney, but it was the makeup team that really brought the character to life. Unfortunately, their moment in the spotlight was overshadowed by their acceptance speech.
At first, everything seemed to be going well. Greg Cannom was thanking everyone who made their win possible. But then things took a turn for the worse.
The trio started reading off a paper, but it quickly became clear they were struggling. The names came out in a random order, and the speech just went on and on.
Even when the Oscar music started playing, the three makeup artists refused to back down. They kept going, despite the obvious signs that their time was up. Finally, the camera zoomed out, and the lighting faded to black.
It was a cringe-worthy moment, to say the least. But was it endearing in its own way? After all, the Oscars are a tightly choreographed affair, and there's only so much time for each speech. Maybe the makeup team was just caught up in the moment, overwhelmed by the emotions of the night.
On the other hand, it's hard not to feel for the winners when their moment is cut short.
Winning an Oscar is a once-in-a-lifetime achievement, and it's understandable that the winners would want to savor the moment. But in the end, the telecast has to go on.
The makeup team from Vice may have given the worst acceptance speech in Oscar history, but they still have their award to show for it. And who knows, maybe one day they'll look back on that cringe-worthy moment and laugh. After all, it's not every day that you get to stand on the biggest stage in Hollywood.
