Some roles are just too hard to embrace.

Summary:

  • Marry My Husband is a Korean television series based on the web novel of the same name.
  • Song Ha-Yoon portrays the antagonist of the series, Jung Soo-Min.
  • The actress admitted that she had to consult a psychiatrist about the role after suffering a health scare.

There's nothing as satisfying as sweet revenge, and every K-drama fan knows at least a few shows that do it perfectly. Marry My Husband, a drama that premiered in January 2024 and has already captured the hearts of many viewers, is one of the best examples of a revenge story done right.

While the performance of all the actors deserves a lot of recognition, viewers tend to praise the female leads, Park Min-Young and Song Ha-Yoon, the most. The actresses portray two best friends, one of whom betrays the other and plots her murder with her philandering father.

What many people don't realize is the toll such a role can take on an actress' health, both physically and mentally.

Song Ha-Yoon’s Marry My Husband Evil Role

There is no one right way to be an actor, and every single person who strives to act, whether on stage or for the cameras, has their own secrets to getting into character. Especially when the character you are portraying is nothing like you in real life.

Portraying truly obsessive and dangerous people isn't the easiest of tasks, and Korean actress Song Ha-Yoon learned that firsthand as she prepared to film Marry My Husband. In an interview with Korean media Sedaily, the actress revealed some of the difficulties she faced:

“At first, I embraced Sumin the way I usually act. So I started getting body aches and breaking out in hives. I was going crazy. My body was rejecting me. <...> I met with the teachers and studied the basics of this character, such as her psychology, reasons for her actions, and where jealousy comes from,” she said.

It wasn't just a psychiatrist who helped Song Ha-Yoon understand and embody her character, but also a team of profilers who gave the actress valuable advice on how she would walk, talk, and even look at the people around her. Perhaps this level of detail is what makes Soo-Min so impressive and downright scary on screen.
