Unpopular opinion alert, everyone!

Katniss shooting that arrow at President Alma Coin in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 was one of the most intense moments of the entire trilogy, and quite a twist, if you ask us.

After all, Coin was the one who rebelled against President Snow — the main villain of the saga who was in charge of the Hunger Games and the villainous regime oppressing the Districts.

It was Coin who turned Katniss into the symbol of new hope — and in the end, it is her who ends up dying from Mockingjay's arrow. How so?

Well, simply put: it turned out that all Coin actually wanted was power and not freedom, so when she realized she couldn't control Katniss, she stopped at nothing.

Coin ordered the bombing which killed Katniss' sister Prim; and in the end, she even suggested that the Districts hold another symbolic round of the Hunger Games, but this time with the Capitol's children.

Katniss could not be okay with that. When she was about to execute President Snow, the Mockingjay quickly shifted targets and shot Coin instead, realizing that she was just as evil as Snow.

Now, here's why Katniss' move was not as impressive as we all initially thought. According to Redditor Upset_Aspect, no matter how villainous Coin seemed, killing her like that was a huge mistake for Katniss.

She was supposed to be a hero, but instead she decided to bring her own vigilante justice, not even putting Coin on trial.

Looks like the big twist did not really age well for many people.

"For me, to kill someone out of fear of what they will become doesn't seem right to me, innocent until proven guilty right? I know it's not like that in the books but something about Katniss doing what she did to Coin doesn't sit right with me as I get older and I can't explain it well," the Redditor noted.

Many agreed. Even though it was clear that Coin was bad news from the start, it was clearly wrong for Katniss to execute her like that, fans say. At least there should have been some sort of a trial.

However, others argue that Coin was not exactly "innocent until proven guilty." After all, wasn't she ready to sacrifice innocent children in order to make a point?

Already being a mass murderer, she got what she deserved, even though Katniss could clearly not rush to actions.

"Coin was a mass murderer and tyrant that just killed a bunch of children, including Primrose, live on television to "win" a war that was already won. Perhaps Katniss could have gone about it in a more legal way but Coin would just probably rig the court in her favor if a trial was ever to happen," Redditor Squiliam-Tortaleni said.

The Hunger Games franchise returns to our screens soon, with the prequel titled The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes to be released on November 17, 2023.
