Netflix has just unveiled the penultimate season of its beloved mystery show, and it looks like some characters survived it just by a happy twist of fate.

'Stranger Things ' season 4 was divided into two volumes: the first introduced the series' new antagonist, Vecna and build up his upcoming confrontation with Eleven, and the second actually showed this high-stakes battle. So naturally, fans were expecting some major deaths in the second volume, and when that didn't happen, people were rightly disappointed that the Duffer Brothers kept all their original teenage characters safe and sound. But it seems that thanks to the showrunners, some of the adult characters also escaped horrible deaths.

In a conversation with Collider, the Duffers explained why they decided to keep almost everyone alive after a dangerous battle with Vecna, unexpectedly revealing that the beloved character Dimitri was originally supposed to die in Season 4.

"In terms of who makes it, who lives or dies. I think there was a version where Dimitri, AKA Enzo, didn't make it. Then he ended up making it. But that's [the most] radical of a departure from the original idea versus what we ended up with," the Duffers said.

The Russian prison guard who helped Hopper escape captivity was only introduced this season, but it seems fans are more than excited that this friendly and brave man may be appearing in the upcoming final season.

"It would be great to see him again – maybe helping improve relations between the countries. I'd equally be happy if Hopper gets a coded letter from him saying he's somehow with his son. But that might not happen seeing as the apocalypse is nigh." – /fiveofspades94.
