The upcoming season of the Netflix teen comedy will see big changes: several characters will leave the show entirely.

The story of Moordale High School's students trying to break out into adulthood, struggling with heartbreak, sexuality and strained relationships with their parents was a hit with international audiences eager to laugh at classic British humor. And now, three seasons later, 'Sex Education ' continues to evolve, with many beloved characters appearing in each season. A fourth season is currently in development, and fans were expecting to see all their favorite teenagers together, but it looks like some of them will not appear at all.

In the Season 3 finale, Moordale School was shut down due to atrocious student behavior, so Otis, Maeve and Eric move on to another school, leaving most of their friends and enemies behind. Speaking to Radio Times, actress Tanya Reynolds, who plays Lily, confirmed that she will not appear in season four, citing that her character's story ended beautifully in season three.

"I'm not [returning], actually, which is sad, very sad. It's just the natural progression of these shows – when you have such big ensemble casts and so many characters, I think you have to let a few older characters go to make way for newer ones, which is absolutely the right thing, the way it should happen," Reynolds said.

People are surprised by this development, claiming that the Lily storyline is far from over. Despite this, fans are willing to give the series a chance, expecting to see new and interesting characters in the upcoming season.
