Streaming platforms are truly unpredictable.

No matter what the critics say about movies and TV shows, the audience always has the right to disagree. Of course, the best support a filmmaker can ask for is money at the box office, but now that the industry has changed, there are other ways for a movie to find its audience besides a theatrical release.

There have already been a few examples of films that were initially overlooked getting a second chance on streaming platforms. The comedy action film The Family Plan, which is now topping the charts on Apple TV Plus, is another title to add to the list.

Is The Family Plan Good?

Produced by Apple Studios and starring Mark Wahlberg, The Family Plan tells the story of former assassin Dan Morgan, who left everything behind for a quiet life as a car salesman. He has a beautiful wife and three kids that he wouldn't trade for anything, but when his dark past catches up with him, he can't run from it anymore, he has to fight it instead.

The movie was never released in theaters, but it premiered on Apple TV Plus late last year, on December 15, 2023. Though it didn't impress critics and ended up with a 25% Rotten Tomatoes score, it did unexpectedly well on the streamer and ended up being the most-watched movie on the platform.

Audiences, intrigued by the premise and hungry for a fun yet dynamic family film, were far more impressed with The Family Plan than the critics. They gave the movie a 62% Rotten Tomatoes score with generally favorable reviews, pointing out the witty writing and Wahlberg's brilliant performance that made the movie so memorable.

Even though it's been more than half a year since the film's release, it remains popular among Apple TV Plus subscribers. So popular, in fact, that it has been at the top of the most-watched movies chart on the platform since June 24, 2024, to the present day.

It's hard to say what caused the spike in views, but it feels like The Family Plan is staying in the top spot. If you want to see what other Apple TV Plus subscribers found so compelling about the movie, be sure to check it out today.
