'They Suck': Secret Invasion Star Despises Fantastic Four But Praises Another Heroes' Group

The Fantastic Four movie franchise didn't do well with audiences, to say the least. The first movie about the superheroes was released in 2005, followed by a sequel in 2007, and both of them were pretty big flops.

Eight years after the first film came out, director Josh Trank attempted to revive the franchise by releasing his own version of the Fantastic Four in 2015. The ambitious project almost cost the director his career: following the troubled production, the movie became a huge box-office bomb, making only $167.9 million against a production budget of $155 million.

Ben Mendelsohn, known for his role as Talos in Captain Marvel and Secret Invasion, recently shared his thoughts on the franchise, and his words are sure to upset the few fans of the film series. The actor pointed out that the Fantastic Four heroes had no background and therefore no motivation, which made them ultimate suckers of the MCU.

"They're sort of like Marvel's first attempt to make a group, and they suck, right? That's why the X-Men rule and Fantastic Four suck," Mendelsohn said.

However, the actor admitted that even these terrible movies had something good about them. When asked who he'd like to be for a day if had the abilities of a Skrull, Mendelsohn didn't miss a beat in answering: Doctor Doom.

According to the actor, Victor Von Doom is the best character in the whole MCU. Doom has a meaningful backstory, being hideously disfigured and losing his family, which led him to become the villain that he is. But at the same time, one may argue that his thought-out background actually made the Fantastic Four look even worse.

"The Fantastic Four birthed the Skrulls, and they birthed Doctor Doom, so while they suck, they also gave rise to the greatest two villain groups and single villain ever," Mendelsohn continued, noting all the good things that the abysmal franchise should be praised for.

But despite the cold reception the previous movies received, the franchise will soon get a new iteration. According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, the next Fantastic Four movie will be the start of Phase 6 of the MCU.

Unlike the previous installments, the new film won't be another origin story, which gives fans hope that the reboot will finally enjoy success.
